ABOUT GINNIE SPRINGS
Ginnie Springs has amazing visibility and waters that remain 72 degrees all year long. Diving is permitted through Ginnie Springs, Devil’s Eye, and Devil’s Ear. If you are open water diving, you are able to access all of the caverns and caves to offer but can only bring a dive light in Ginnie’s main headspring. Please note that the dive offered is recommended for experienced divers. While exploring, you’ll notice Devil’s Eye is a circular spring with depths of 15 feet. Devil’s Eye connects to Devil’s Ear which is in the Santa Fe River about 15 yards east of Devil’s Eye. Devil’s Eye’s cave entrance can be found about 60 feet below the surface – note that open water divers should stop here as surface light will be lost not further from this area below the water. Really interesting artifacts have been found beneath the surface including arrowheads and shark teeth. Ginnie Spring opens up to a large outflow which extends to the Santa Fe River. This is going to be the largest spring within the area. Divers will find a cavern with a ton of areas to explore. A grating was put into place at the headspring to prevent access to one of the caves and since then, it’s been named one of the safest cavern dives in Florida.
